According to the American media The National Interest, Russia is not in a hurry to adopt the new Prometheus S-500 anti-aircraft missile system in order not to hinder the profitable sale of the previous model, the S-400 Triumph SAM.
The publication expressed concern that the excessive advertising of Prometheus might hamper the promotion of Triumph on the international arms market.
Shtaisky magazine gave some comparative characteristics of the Russian air defense system. For example, the range of the S-500 missiles is 600 km, while the S-400 has only 400 km. In addition, Prometheus is capable of tracking and intercepting up to ten warheads moving at speeds of about 6.5 kilometers per second simultaneously, as well as detecting subtle fighters.
In addition, the magazine gives an interesting maxim about why Russia so lightly covers the development of Prometheus. According to experts of the publication, this is due to the fact that the Russian authorities are afraid that the release of the C-500 may undermine the export success of the C-400.
Recall that at the moment Almaz-Antey is completing the development of the promising S-500 Prometheus air defense system. The complex is equipped with a radar detector with an active phased antenna array and is used to detect and track targets in the entire altitude range, identifying their affiliation on the principle of "friend or foe."
