Pistol "Beretta": device and modifications

Pistol "Beretta" without exaggeration known throughout the world. He deserved such popularity because he has excellent characteristics of accurate shooting, reliable and easy to use. The company "Beretta" has developed and produces a lot of decent pistols, but the most famous model was the Beretta 92. It was so practical and successful that it was adopted in many countries around the world.

"Beretta" (Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta Gardone) is the oldest arms company in the world, it is owned by the same family for about 500 years. The company was founded in 1526, when a gunsmith named Bartolomeo Beretta received from the Venetian arsenal 296 ducats for making 185 barrels. The invoice for this transaction is still kept in the archives of the company.

Gun history

Prior to the beginning of the 20th century, Beretta’s specialization was the production of sporting and hunting rifles. But in 1915, after the start of the First World War, Beretta fired her first pistol. This model was far from ideal, the gun was a typical product of wartime. The company improved its products, and in 1918 the Beretta Model 1918 submachine gun appeared, adopted by the Italian army.

In 1938, Beretta entered the list of three Italian companies that supplied rifles to Japan (until 1942).

After the end of the Second World War, the Beretta was engaged in repairing American M1 Garand rifles, which the US supplied to Italy. Subsequently, the company modified this system and based on it released a new rifle, the Beretta BM-59. The rifle scheme was similar to the M14, but experts say that the BM-59 fired more accurately. The company's designers have developed about a dozen more models before in 1976. "Beretta" has released a number of pistols of the famous 8X series.

The first models appeared 81 and 84, and later modifications 82 and 85. All of these pistols had the same dimensions and design, the differences consisted in calibers. Models 81 and 82 were made chambered for 7.65mm Browning, while 84 and 85 used a 9x17mm Browning caliber. Pistols 82 and 85 had a magazine capacity of 8 rounds and a single-row device, 81 and 84 had a two-row magazine with 12 and 13 rounds, respectively.

In 1986, the Beretta gun model 86 was created, which became a hybrid of the gun 85 and the earlier model 950. In M86, the design of the bolt and frame was changed and the barrel was folded upwards. Such a pistol scheme was convenient for those who did not have strong enough hands to distort the bolt (mostly women). The disassembly and cleaning of the model was also simplified.

In 1972, under the leadership of Carlo Beretta, the Beretta 92 family of self-loading pistols was created. The Beretta 92F model of 9 mm caliber replaced Colt M1911 in 1985 and became the standard US Army pistol under the designation M9. According to the contract, M9 is produced both in America and in Italy. Until 1995, the USA purchased 1,020,257 M9 pistols for all combat arms. Combat M9 can be equipped with a flame arrester and a silencer. In 2018, the sale of a modified army version of the M9A3 starts. It is distinguished by high reliability, convenience and improved technical characteristics.

All in all, Beretta has created a large number of modifications of 92 series pistols.

Features of the design of the gun Beretta 92

  1. The gun consists of 65 parts. The work of automation Beretta 92 is based on the return of the short stroke of the barrel. Under the barrel is a return spring. Locking of the trunk is carried out with its longitudinal pullback by coupling with a bolt by a special larva swinging on the axis, it is placed between its tides from the bottom of the trunk.
  2. When fired, the shutter with the barrel moves backwards. Longitudinal spring-loaded rod stumbles upon a frame in the rear tide of the trunk. The swinging larva ceases to interact with the protrusion of the frame, under the influence of the rod, it rotates and falls back. After the interaction of the frame and the larva with the rod, the barrel is disengaged from the bolt, stops by the frame. The bolt ejects the sleeve, continuing to move, compresses the return spring, cocking the trigger, and then compressing the mainspring. The bolt under the pressure of a compressed return spring, moving forward, sends the cartridge into the chamber, pushing the barrel. Spring-loaded rod goes back and releases the larva. The protrusion of the frame, as well as the end of the spring propped on it, the larva rises. The lateral projections of the larvae protrude into the vertical slits of the shutter. The larva is again linked to the shutter. The pistol is ready for the next shot.
  3. The device of the firing mechanism got the finished look only in Beretta 92SB. USM had an open trigger position and had a dual action. The drummer is spring-loaded, held in the position allocated from the primer, from the impact of the trigger to the final phase of the movement of the trigger, it is closed by a jumper.
