The Russian army will replace the famous UR-77 Meteorit demining machine, known as Zmey Gorynych, with a more modern, durable and maneuverable one. The main feature of the new demining machine is an improved and extended charge.
According to experts, the new elongated modular charge, which is designed for demining, will allow you to act from a safer distance, and thus help to save human lives. It also became known that the design of the developed charge is different from that used by the Serpent Gorynych. New charge refers to the so-called checker type.
The new machine will be created on the basis of one of the BMPs already in service with the Russian army.
Recall, the UR-77 "Meteorit" was developed on the basis of self-propelled howitzer 2S1 "Gvozdika". This demining installation makes wide passes in minefields using a powerful blast wave. The charges in the long cord pull the rocket, which the UR-77 launches onto the minefield. However, in Syria, the Zmey Gorynych was actively used to destroy the fortifications of terrorists.
