Not long ago, the armies of the world fired at short distances, and used artillery or snipers to hit targets at long distances. However, modern experience shows that the infantry tries to contact the enemy at a distance of 800-1000 meters, so there is a need for weapons that can hit targets at such a distance.
The SK-16 rifle - the weapon designer
The SK-16 self-loading carbine is a modular weapon in which you can easily and quickly replace any units. This allows the gun to be customized according to the task and purpose of the shooter, as well as to carry out repairs and change configurations right during the battle.
This project includes a lot of interesting solutions that have never been used anywhere before, but despite this, they are highly attractive in the field of weapons production. The first assembled and working copy of the SK-16 has already been submitted to the top leadership of Russia and is preparing for mass production.
The design of the carbine SK-16
One of the main features of this weapon is the mount of the sight. It is made as Picatinny and acts as a mount for the barrel and slide gate guides. Such a solution makes it possible to achieve coaxiality of all the most important components of the weapon, as a result of which it does not need to be shot down after each change of sighting mechanisms.
An interesting decision was made when organizing the work of the SK-16 automation. As is known, the main problem of gas-powered rifles is the barrel vibration during the removal of powder gases through a special hole in the barrel wall. In this project, "Kalashnikov" automation is activated after the muzzle cut, which eliminates the vibration of the barrel during a shot.
During the shot, the slide frame is not accompanied by a handle. But if there is a problem with feeding the cartridge to the chamber, the handle can be linked to the shutter and send the charge to the chamber in one motion: even with the simplest blow.
The company's engineers took care of left-handers. It is possible to eject the cartridge case cartridge in any direction. The ejection side switches quickly. This technology has never been used in any weapon; it will be a huge plus for people with a left hand.
Many weapon lovers know that during a shot, several impulses act on any weapon. Each of them, in one way or another, is trying to lead a weapon to one of the sides, which can reduce the accuracy of shooting. In the SC-16, the barrel and receiver are rolled back. This solution allows you to extinguish the pulses inside the weapon, reducing their impact during firing to a minimum.
What can be concluded on SC-16?
The weapons of 2018 are very young and are being developed by the Kalashnikov company. Many sources have reported that the gun should replace the SVD sniper rifle in service. So far, only the main features of the design of the instrument are known; nothing specific has yet been disclosed in the company.
In any case, now experts are closely watching the project. Many try to predict what the gun will be like in the end, what it will be made of, what the technical characteristics will have and what the effectiveness of the shooting will be. Soon "Kalashnikov" should show the first copies that will be used in the army, and sold on the market.
