UN refused to consider armed confrontation in Ukraine suspended

The United Nations (UN) considers the armed standoff in the South-East of Ukraine to be active. So said the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Miroslav Jenca, in a report to the Security Council of the organization.

According to him, the confrontation can not be called sleeping or stopped. This is proved by incidents that have occurred over the past few years. He noted that this clash, taking place in the center of Europe, constantly leads to the death of people.

Mr. Jenca urged urgently to agree on additional measures and to establish a ceasefire regime stable and irreversible. Jenca also announced that the unstable situation along the entire length of the contact line adversely affects the socio-economic situation and the collapsing infrastructure.

By the end of January 2018, it became clear how many people had died during the clashes in the Donbass. From April 2014 to December 2018, approximately 12.8 to 13 thousand people are lost.

Armed confrontation in the Donbass has been going on for five years. In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the unrecognized DNR and LC, which declared independence. By the spring of 2018, the format of the operation was changed, control over its implementation was transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (MAT).
