Deputy Prime Minister for the military-industrial complex, Yuri Borisov, in his interview to representatives of Russian and foreign media, said that the Russian Federation had at least six types of weapons that could circumvent the protection of Western countries.
These include a cruise missile with a nuclear engine, as well as the well-known intercontinental ballistic missile RS-28 Sarmat (ICBM). The politician also mentioned the PAK FA frontline aviation complex, the new T-14 tank, the Nudol satellite complex.
Borisov reminded that the army is already actively rearming and by 2027 it is planned to be fully updated.
The President of the Russian Federation announced that the country had developed new types of weapons capable of carrying a combat nuclear charge. According to V. Putin, such technologies will force the US to also begin rearmament.
Speaking at the annual meeting, Vladimir Putin, a few weeks before the presidential election, showed videos of ICBMs, the newest nuclear-powered cruise missiles, unmanned underwater technology and other weapons. According to the president, Russia was forced to create new prototypes due to the US non-compliance with the 1972 anti-missile defense treaty.
The existence of several weapons systems, such as the RS-28 nuclear missile "Sarmat" or "Satan-2", was previously known. These models were being upgraded in response to the new US policy.
After the Russian president’s speech, the Pentagon adopted a new policy on nuclear weapons, realizing the promise of US President Donald Trump to develop a “powerful and impressive arsenal to deter any acts of aggression.” The policy provided for the use of low-power nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles and submarines, which could correspond to similar Russian weapons.
Putin’s message was unequivocal: “I would like to convey to those who wanted to circumvent the arms race for the past 15 years, having thus gained an advantage over the Russian Federation ... Attempts to contain Russia failed,” he said.
New types of weapons
Vladimir Putin particularly noted the test of the Russian missile RS-28 Sarmat. According to state media reports, the intercontinental ballistic missile can fly 10,000 kilometers with a load of 15 warheads, although the actual capabilities of the missile have not been demonstrated. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that it conducted a successful test launch in October 2017, the rocket traveled 5,000 km before it reached the target zone in the Russian Far East.
Putin also noted that Russia had developed a laser weapon, a hypersonic rocket and a cruise missile based on a nuclear reactor, which could fly endlessly.
The president said that the Dagger supersonic rocket can move more than 10 times faster than the speed of sound, which gives it "a guarantee of overcoming all existing and future anti-missile systems." The President of the Russian Federation pointed to the completion of tests and the beginning of the use of a new technology.
V.V. Putin also spoke about the RS-26 Avangard ballistic missile, which "is heading toward its target as a meteorite." The missile has already caused concern in the United States about its compliance with international treaties.
The head of the Kremlin showed several animated videos with a prototype weapon, including a nuclear-powered cruise missile, which theoretically has an unlimited range of work. The video showed how to overcome air defense in the Atlantic Ocean and successfully maneuver.
Russia is actively promoting its own latest military technology. The first Russian stealth fighter Su-57 was deployed in Syria to conduct combat tests.
