US is trying to sell Turkey "Patriot" instead of Russian S-400

The prospect of arming Turkey with S-400 complexes alarmed Washington, and he suggests that Erdogan choose the Patriots.

Turkish President Erdogan alarmed the United States with his intentions to buy the Russian S-400 missile system. Therefore, from the State Department, he promptly received an offer to purchase an American counterpart of the Russian air defense system called "Patriot".

According to experts, the supply of "Patriot" would be the first attempt by the Trump administration to persuade Turkey to abandon purchases of Russian S-400 air defense missile systems. The total value of the transaction is still estimated at 3.5 billion US dollars.

Recall that in the last couple of years, tensions between the United States and Turkey are rapidly growing. The Erdogan government began to show authoritarian inclinations and come closer to Russia. Especially after the attempted military coup in this country and the attempt to overthrow Recep Erdogan. In addition, there are disagreements between the two countries because of American support for Kurdish military units in Syria. Erdogan recently threatened to send his army to Syria in the Kurdish-held areas where American troops are deployed.

In general, such misunderstandings in relations between the two countries threatened to escalate into open clashes in Syria.

Recall that Turkey plays a very important role in the construction program of the F-35 stealth fighter - and the United States is making a big bet on it. 10 Turkish companies must produce the fuselage and landing gear for this aircraft, as well as a number of less significant components. And the amount of the contract is rather big - as much as $ 12 billion.

The F-35 uses the latest stealth technology. And theoretically, it can move away from the Russian C-400 missiles. Therefore, the leadership of the United States and express the deepest fear that Ankara could provide Moscow with the development of these most invisible technologies. And as a result - the modernization of the C-400 and the "sharpening" of the air defense system under the F-35 will follow.

In general, both the administration and the Congress of the most democratic country agreed that they would impose sanctions against Turkey if they dare to buy Russian S-400.

In turn, Turkey expresses a sincere desire to acquire the C-400. However, as it happens in any complicated policy, the United States has time to make a curtsy. The other day, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey would not cancel the deal with Moscow for the supply of S-400, but in the future, she still wants to buy American military equipment.

According to experts, the complications due to S-400 are not the only obstacle to the improvement of American-Turkish relations. Having released this year from the conclusion of the American pastor, Turkey, nevertheless, continues to hold a scientist from NASA and staff of the State Department of Turkish origin. Erdogan is unhappy that a US court sentenced a Turkish banker accused of violating sanctions. In addition, Ankara is demanding the extradition of Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen, who lives in the United States, to Erdogan’s former ally. It is he who is suspected of organizing a failed military coup in Turkey.
