At the disposal of the largest military organizations have always been a lot of objects. Some of them are striking in their mystery and unusual appearance. The most prominent are the following structures: Sea-Based X-band, the Soviet 825GTS complex and Edwards Air Base.
Sea-based X-band
The object is a towed surface radar complex, designed to be placed in the waters of the ocean. For its production used base oil platform CS-50. The station together with the PAVE PAWS early warning system performs the task of detecting targets with the subsequent transfer of target indications to air defense systems. The complex detects the launch of an ICBM with the most accurate determination of the trajectory of the flight of warheads. Possible transfer to the place where it is necessary to strengthen the missile defense.
Soviet complex 825GTS
This object was a base for submarines, and at the time of the Cold War, the 825ГТС was completely secret. Located in Balaklava Bay, it is considered to be the construction of anti-nuclear defense of the highest category. The base can protect from exposure to a direct hit of an atomic bomb with a capacity of 100 kilowatts. On the territory there are: a water channel with a dry dock, repair shops, warehouses, mine-torpedo components. The complex is located in the mountain Tavros, it has two exits on opposite sides. The submarines of type 613 and 633 were serviced and repaired at the facility.
Edwards Air Base
Edwards Air Force Base is owned by the United States Air Force. It is located in California, near Lancaster and Rosemead. The name she was given in honor of test pilot Glen Edwards. The base has the longest runway in the world. Its length is almost 12 kilometers, but for certain reasons it cannot accept civilian ships. The object was founded back in 1932 and was intended to test the latest developments. Shuttles of the Space Shuttle landed at the base, for them it was a spare airfield, and in 1943 the Bell P-59 Airomet took off from it.
