Creation, serial production, supply "Bofors" in the USSR

The history of the creation of the most massive anti-aircraft guns of the Second World War dates back to 1928. It was then that the Swedish arms firm Bofors began to develop a new anti-aircraft gun for the needs of the Swedish navy. In 1932, the first prototype of the 40-mm anti-aircraft automatic cannon, which received the factory designation L / 60, was introduced to the Swedish sailors. Since 1934, the gun officially adopted.

From this moment begins the eventful history of this instrument. At that time it was one of the best-in-class artillery anti-aircraft guns. This explains the geography of the supply of the Swedish company. Between 1932 and 1939, Bofors supplied 1,219 L / 60 guns to foreign customers. Most of the guns that subsequently took part in the battles of the Second World War were made under license abroad. The gun was produced from 1933 to 1950.
