Cosmonauts will be carried to the moon by the Yenisei

By 2028, a new rocket of a purely peaceful purpose will be created in Russia. Its goal is to carry heavy satellites and space ships out of the earth orbit. The head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin announced this on Twitter.

According to the chief space curator, the rocket was named Yenisei. At the first stage, it will bring more than 70 tons of cargo into low Earth orbit. However, its main purpose is to provide flights to deep space, in particular, to the Moon and Mars.

As reported by TASS with reference to Dmitry Rogozin, conditions will be created for flights of the Yenisei from 2026 already. The carrier rocket will be based at the Vostochny cosmodrome. Its first launch is scheduled for 2028.

Above that, from 2023, the second launch complex for light and heavy Angara missiles will start operating at the Vostochny cosmodrome.

Recall, to develop a new launch vehicle called "Yenisei" was entrusted to the Korolev RSC Energia, Progress RCC and the Khrunichev Center.
