Soviet smoke machine TDA-M is a special engineering and technical means, which is in service with the engineering troops of the Soviet Army. The main purpose of the special vehicle is to smoke various military installations, military equipment and fortified positions. Due to the design features, the TDA-M machine can disinfect military equipment, military and civilian transport, industrial and urban infrastructure objects by spraying insecticidal active aerosols.
Prerequisites for creating a machine TDA-M and design features
In the mid-60s, the motorized rifle and tank units of the Soviet Army needed special means capable of providing a dense smoke screen in a matter of minutes, thereby covering their own military equipment, location and location from enemy observers and fire spotters. The way out of this situation was the development and creation of such equipment - the TDA-M smoke machine based on the GAZ-66 domestic truck.
The platform of the GAZ-66, which has a high cross-country capacity, made it possible to place the necessary equipment on it, capable of creating an unvisited smoke screen of up to 1 km in a matter of minutes. After conducting ground tests, the machine began to enter the troops, becoming an integral part of the engineering and technical units of the Soviet regiments, divisions and armies.
