In response to measures taken by the Russian side to maintain a high level of combat readiness and technical equipment of the military units deployed along the Russian-Polish border in the Kaliningrad region, Poland intends to equip its armed forces with the American M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) multiple launch rocket systems.
At the very least, this follows from the official request of Warsaw to Washington for the supply of a large consignment of these modern fire complexes.
Poland has been trying to acquire jet systems since 2015, but the negotiation process took years to complete. It is expected that the transfer of military equipment will be carried out within the framework of the program for the supply of American weapons to foreign partners Foreign Military Sales, initiated a few years ago by Washington.
Poland will become the second Eastern European country after Romania, which will receive American HIMARS.
A total of 56 M142 multiple launch rocket systems will be delivered in the amount of 250 million US dollars. Their production should be adjusted at the factory of the corporation Lockheed Martin.
HIMARS guided missiles are capable of hitting ground targets at a range of up to 300 km.
