The military department of Misty Albion has demonstrated a new tank, designed to become the main rival of the Russian “Almaty”. British experts have already called him "Black Night". It is designed based on the Challenger 2 tank.
At the beginning of the month, the military concern BAE Systems revealed to the world a demo version of the Black Night tank.
However, the enthusiasm is still premature. At the moment, the tank is being upgraded in a number of areas. In particular, "Black Night" will install enhanced night vision systems, as well as update the anti-tank missile defense complex.
As for the main gun of the tank, it is not planned to change it. However, experts of the German magazine Focus are concerned that the gun is outdated and is unlikely to be able to penetrate the frontal armor of a Russian competitor.
To create a worthy competitor to the Russian Armata, Europe will need a lot more time, Focus experts emphasize.
By the way, according to the publication, the British will modernize more than 400 Challenger 2 combat vehicles in the near future. This tank is considered one of the old-timers of the British army. His firstborn rose in operation back in 1994.
