The MTP-1 Soviet technical assistance vehicle based on the BTR-50P is a universal, special engineering vehicle. The machine is designed to implement the repair of all types of wheeled and tracked military equipment, starting with tanks, armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, ending with vehicles and vehicles of combat and technical support.
The presence of special mechanisms, devices and devices installed on board the machine, allows the calculation to conduct technical reconnaissance, towing failed vehicles and provide technical assistance to combat vehicles in conditions of the use of weapons of mass destruction.
Development and serial release
The MTP-1 technical assistance vehicle based on the BTR-50P appeared in the troops in the late 50s of the 20th century. The development of a technical vehicle capable of quickly and efficiently carrying out repair work and evacuation of damaged and failed military equipment, Soviet designers engaged in the period of the Korean War. The reason for the creation of a universal technical support machine was the great losses of the North Korean troops in technology. In modern conditions, mechanized troops needed an effective engineering and technical means that could quickly come to the aid crews of combat vehicles.
The Soviet BTR-50P armored personnel carrier, developed in 1955, became the technical basis for the creation of an engineering vehicle. The first prototypes were made already in 1958 and entered the army for field tests.
Serial production, created on the basis of the BTR technical assistance vehicles, was carried out at several enterprises at once. In total for the period from 1958 to 1966, 6500 MTP were produced at Soviet factories.

An insignificant amount of such equipment in various modifications was placed abroad, where it took part in a number of armed conflicts.
