Veteran tank M60 will remain in service after the upgrade

At the Pentagon, they unequivocally concluded that it was too early to write off the M60 tank for scrap. Especially since the Leonardo arms company has developed a comprehensive deep-upgrade package for this combat vehicle. Namely - for its upgraded version - M60A3.

As reported to the press in the company Leonardo, its update package has been successfully tested and intended for export deliveries. It includes improvements in booking, firepower and ride quality.

For example, instead of 105 mm guns, it is proposed to install a 120 mm caliber gun on an advanced tank that is compatible with the projectiles of modern NATO standards. In the frontal part of the tower armored mounted, and in the back - additional protection against anti-tank missiles. Also reinforced frontal projection of the hull and armor installed.

And of course, electronic filling. Instead of an outdated system, Leonardo offers its development under the name TURMS (Tank Universal Modular System), already tested on other combat vehicles.

The M60 tank was developed by Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant from 1957 to 1959 based on the M48 medium tank. During serial production (from 1959 to 1987), about 15,000 units were produced in three versions (M60A1, M60A2 and M60A3). In addition, a modification of the M60120S, which increases the combat abilities of the tank to the level of M1A1 Abrams, was developed. The M-60 is still the main battle tank of the US Armed Forces. In addition, these tanks are in service with the armies of Bahrain, Yemen, Oman, Sudan, Taiwan, Tunisia and several other countries.
