Soviet 152-mm gun 2A36 "Hyacinth-B" of 1976 - the most powerful wheeled towed artillery system

Soviet 152-mm gun 2A36 "Hyacinth" is a towed artillery system of high power on a wheel course. The gun was created to effectively combat large targets and objects over long distances, to destroy and suppress the centers of resistance, firing points, military equipment and stockpiles in places of concentration. Due to the design features, "Hyacinths" can be used as mobile artillery systems of naval defense.

Adoption and mass production

The history of the development of the project of the most powerful wheeled and towed artillery system dates back to the late 60s. From 1968 to 1975, design work was carried out in the design office at the machine-building plant in Motovilikha. The result of a long and painstaking work was the creation of a fundamentally new artillery system. The main difference from the previous large-caliber guns is the possibility of towing a new 152-mm cannon by means of automobiles available on the equipment of the Soviet Army.

In 1975, the gun, having received the Grau-2A36 index, after successfully conducting tests, was put into service. Serial production was carried out at machine-building plants in the city of Motovilikha. Over the years of mass production, from 1976 to 1989, the plant manufactured 2543 various modifications of this tool.
