The US Army soldier will be dressed in the Onyx exoskeleton for the foreseeable future. The cost of developing such an amplifier of human power is approximately 6.9 million US dollars. According to the American media, the new exoskeleton will not touch the whole body. "Onyx" is intended only for the lower part of the body of a soldier. It is designed using artificial intelligence technology to increase strength and endurance.
The developer of the exoskeleton firm Lockheed Martin in the near future should improve and optimize the components of Onyx. Demonstration of new equipment for the bottom of the American soldiers to be held in mid-2019.
The main tasks that the exoskeleton has to solve when using it in combat situations are to improve human capabilities, reduce fatigue and injury, and, of course, increase endurance, strength and speed.
The Onyx exoskeleton, developed by Lockheed Martin on the basis of a license from the Canadian company B-TEMIA, is designed to protect against overstressing the lower back and legs when performing heavy operations and to facilitate the serviceman to carry all kinds of goods.
On the exoskeleton used sensors. They transmit information about the speed, direction and angle of movement of the soldier in the onboard computer with artificial intelligence, which controls the electromechanical drives located in the knees. The exoskeleton provides the appropriate additional effort at the right time, which helps to bend and unbend the knees, climbing up steep slopes, lifting or carrying heavy loads.
