As the President of Russia emphasized, if the United States announced that they were engaged in the development of nuclear weapons, then in our country they would do the same.
Recall, to date, only the marine version of the "Caliber" is manufactured. These missiles are installed on new Russian frigates and other warships. This was due to the limitations of the Treaty on Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles, which did not allow the installation of such missiles on land installations.
From the second of February, according to official statements, the United States began withdrawing from the INF Treaty and suspended its commitments undertaken in 1987. The whole process of withdrawal from the contract will take six months. On the eve of the American President Donald Trump promised that Washington will develop its own weapons in response to violations that Moscow allowed in the framework of the INF Treaty. They say that it will deprive Russia of military advantages from its illegal actions. However, some time later, the same person no less officially stated that he would like to conclude a new agreement on medium-range and shorter-range missiles with Russia.
By the way, the cause of the US claims to Russia was the 9M729 cruise missile, which can be launched from Iskander-M installations. Moscow, in turn, believes that the rocket does not violate the provisions of the INF.
