Today in Russia, the development of a new complex of protection against high-precision weapons for domestic armored vehicles, based on optical-electronic suppression of homing missiles, is in full swing. First of all, the novelty is aimed at fighting with American Javelin ATGMs. The first new product will receive a self-propelled gun "Lotus".
According to the developers from TsNIItochmash, the new protection system can negate the advantages of anti-tank missiles, even with homing systems. For example, the Javelin homing missile of the US ATGM continuously compares the picture in front of it with a reference image of the target made in the IR range before launching, and if the tank's contour turns into a shapeless cloud, the missile will lose its target and self-destruct.
The complex consists of fixing the threat of equipment and a system for setting up optical-electronic interference. In the direction of attack, a cassette with an aerosol forming a cloud of interference in the visible, infrared, and radio parts is fired with regard to the wind. Where, for example, the Lotus “Lotus” just stood, a large, impenetrable cloud appears for homing heads.
Aerosol munitions have proven to be effective in recent trials.
Also effective is the new complex and against laser-guided missiles. They need a light mark on the purpose for which the projectile is oriented. If the spot from the laser beam closes the interference, the rocket will lose its target.
