General Dynamics receives a contract to support the tank Abrams M1A2

General Dynamics received a $ 58 million contract from the US Army for the purchase of active defense systems for the Abrams M1A2 battle tank.

The contract, announced on Thursday by the US Department of Defense, covers the purchase of kits for installing active defense systems and ballast kits for the Abrams M1A2 battle tank.

According to the Department of Defense, all work will be conducted in Sterling Heights, Michigan, with an estimated completion date of June 30, 2020.

The Abrams tank entered service in the United States in 1980 and remains the best choice for the US Army, the National Guard and the Marine Corps, as well as several US allies.

M1A2 is the latest, most technologically advanced modification of Abrams, which entered service in 1993. It replaces the 20-year-old M1A1 tanks, which entered service in the 1980s.

The new modification is part of the overall update program M1A2, which combines modern technology to expand the combat capabilities of the fighters with improved management and control functions, such as color cards and displays, computer memory, data processing speed and communications.
