PP-91 "Kedr" is a Russian submachine gun, created in the early 90s by order of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs on the basis of earlier, even Soviet developments. The basis for the "Kedra" was the design of the PP-71 submachine gun by the talented gunsmith EF Dragunov (the creator of the famous SVD sniper rifle). "Cedar" gladly use collectors.

The history of the creation of PP-91 "Cedar"

Back in the early 70s of the last century, work on the creation of special-purpose weapons was carried out by order of the Soviet Ministry of Defense. This program received the code name "Bouquet". It was within its framework that work was carried out on the development of submachine guns chambered for a caliber of 9 × 18 PM.

However, the program ended in nothing - none of the developed models were adopted for use.

In the early 90s, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation became interested in developments in the field of creating new submachine guns. At that time, the employees of this department had at their disposal only PM pistols and shortened AK modifications.

The attention of customers was attracted by the PP-71 submachine gun, developed by Evgeny Dragunov. Weapons began to refine at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, the eldest son of the famous gunsmith was in charge of fine-tuning. The result of the work was the emergence of "Cedar", prototypes of which were made in 1992. The following year, the PP-91 Kedr submachine gun began to be mass-produced.

Originally, Kedr was designed for the cartridge 9 × 18 PM, but already in 1994, the designers created the Klin submachine gun under the more powerful cartridge 9 × 18 mm PMM. This weapon was first demonstrated to the general public at an arms exhibition in April 1994. PP-9 "Klin" mass-produced in the period from 1996 to 2002 for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Externally and in their design, Kedr and Klin do not practically differ, the use of more powerful 9 × 18 mm ammunition PMM improved the ballistics of weapons, but did not lead to a sufficient increase in firing range. Soon the 9 × 18 mm PMM cartridge was removed from service and replaced with the standard 9 × 19 mm.

Also noteworthy is the successful design of the fuse and the magazine retainer.

The disadvantages of the PP-91 can be attributed to a high rate of fire, which leads to a large consumption of ammunition and dispersion when firing.
