1992 was remembered by fans of GAZ trucks by the release of a new model, which replaced the Soviet "Gazon" (GAZ-5204). The new model received the traditional name with a new digital index. It was the legendary GAZ-3306, which for more than two decades has become one of the most common medium-duty trucks in our country.
The new "Lawn" was built on the chassis of the previous model, but received a new form of the cabin, which was intended for two passengers (however, three passengers could easily fit there). The first models of the GAZ-3306 were equipped with a metal platform, which was equipped with folding sides. Soon the GAZ-3306 dump truck appeared. All GAZ-3306 cars were produced until 1995, after which they were replaced by the GAZ-3307 model, which externally looked the same.
What was created GAZ-3306
GAZ-3306 was created to replace the GAZ series 52 truck and was intended for the same work as the previous model. This is agricultural work and transportation of various things. The car itself weighed 2,500 kilograms and could easily drive a load of up to 4 tons. But the drivers of those years are well aware that the “Lawn” will easily slacken more weight, especially if it has a diesel engine.
The truck is able to drive on any roads, which was extremely important for work on collective and state farms. Rural mobile shops were also made on the chassis of this car and drove to the destination, regardless of the weather and road conditions. In everyday life, the operation of the GAZ-3306 also did not cause much trouble. Only one moment could not arrange when loading - it was necessary to lift the load high, as the body is high from the ground. It had to go for the sake of increasing the car’s passability.
The use of trailers capable of diverting loads of up to 2.5 tons was also widely practiced. Even a gasoline engine easily coped with such a weight.
GAZ-3306 - technical characteristics of models with a gasoline and diesel engine
Description of the technical characteristics of the GAZ-3306 with different engines do not differ from each other. But experienced drivers know that a diesel engine has the best “high-pitchedness” and is able to divert more cargo, although nothing is said about this in the characteristics of the model. Another diesel engine is much more economical than gasoline. The main disadvantage of a diesel engine is the complexity of its repair. If a gasoline engine (which still generates its pedigree from military developments) is repaired in any field on its own, the diesel engine cannot be repaired this way.
Technical characteristics of GAZ-3306 are as follows:
- The curb weight of GAZ-3306 is about 3 tons;
- The total weight of the transported cargo can reach 4.5 tons (although in practice it often only starts from this level and reaches 7 tons);
- The speed of a car with a load can reach 90 km / h; if a trailer is towed, then up to 80 km / h.
The gasoline engine has a volume of 4.5 liters and is eight-cylinder. It works in tandem with a four-speed gearbox. This engine has a water cooling system and runs on 76 gasoline. The tank at the car holds 100 liters of fuel. Gasoline consumption declared about 20 liters, in fact, a loaded car easily "eats" 30 liters of fuel.
GAZ-3306 diesel went into serial sale in 1993. The combination of low fuel consumption and higher traction characteristics immediately attracted potential car buyers. This engine was equipped with an air-cooled system and its installation on the car immediately made it advantageous to use the "Lawn" for short and medium trips. In addition to the installation of a diesel engine, 1993 brought the model upgrades of ventilation and heating systems. Also in the cabin began to install separate seats with seat belts.
The resource of the engine GAZ-3306, according to the manufacturer, was supposed to be 250 thousand kilometers. There is information that the resource of this engine could amount to 500 thousand kilometers, but it is unlikely that the owners of the “Gazonov” will believe this information. Engine life directly depends on the quality of fuel, oil and general maintenance. Domestic trucks are very rarely serviced this way, so not every GAZ-ovsky engine can produce 250 thousand before overhaul.
Although the GAZ-3306 has long been produced for it, there are still quite a few such cars on our roads. Often the engines are replaced with more modern ones (for example, from GAZ-3309), but sometimes there are instances with a native engine.
GAZ-3306 was a transitional model, although it looked the same as later models from GAZ. This model takes an honorable place in the history of GAZ and continues to work in remote parts of our country.
