"Thor" will protect the sky of the Arctic

In late November, the air defense forces of the Northern Fleet will receive the unique Tor-M2DT anti-aircraft missile systems. This kind of air defense missile system was specially designed for combat operations in conditions of critically low temperatures.

While the sky of the Arctic will guard one division "Thors". Over time, several more complexes will be deployed.

For the first time "Thor" in its arctic outfit appeared at the exhibition of weapons "Army-2016".

The main feature of the "Torah" is that the weapons of the countries of the world, as a rule, are focused on the maximum temperature range, plus or minus 50 degrees Celsius. However, "Thor" can be used with great efficiency and at lower temperatures.

Tor-M2DT was developed in the Almaz-Antey concern design bureau. It is based on the chassis of the two-link tracked carrier DT-30PM "Vityaz".

The structure of the ZRK includes 16 vertical-launch anti-aircraft missiles. They can shoot down aircraft at a distance of up to 12 kilometers. The maximum altitude of the rocket "Torah" is 10 000 meters.

It is noteworthy that the new Arctic anti-aircraft complex can conduct simultaneous combat with four air targets, even if they are moving from four different sides.

Another advantage. "Thor" - remotely controlled and fully robotic. That is, he can perform a combat mission even in the absence of a crew in the car.

Thus, the new Arctic anti-aircraft missile system will not only provide a peaceful sky over the Arctic, but also protect the crew of air defense fighters when performing combat missions.
