Deliveries of modernized T-72B1 tanks from Russia to Laos began. The refined tank bears the proud nickname "White Eagle".
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic will receive Russian T-72B1 tanks for armament. Several dozen armored vehicles have already arrived in Vietnam. From there, they will be taken by rail to Laos.
It all started with the fact that in the spring of this year, the Minister of Defense of Laos, Tyansamon Tyannyalat, visited the Russian Federation. During his visit, he familiarized himself with the peculiarities of the modernized T-72B1 “White Eagle” tank and highly appreciated its tactical and technical characteristics.
Further, the Minister of Defense of Laos said that the tanks and military equipment of the Soviet Union at one time played an important role in ensuring the protection of the achievements of the revolution in Laos and in our day Russian weapons are still of high quality.
After a short bargaining (Laos was originally proposed to purchase the T-72B3 tank as a more modern one), the Lao delegation opted for the T-72-B1 model.
Recall that three years ago a batch of tanks of the same modernization was successfully acquired for the needs of the army of Nicaragua.
