English tank struck the T-72 German projectile

In Britain, test fires were carried out from the Rh120L55A1 cannon, which is mounted on the Challenger 2 tank.

The role of the target was played by the Russian T-72 tank. Its modification could not be found. As a result, the projectile went through the upper armor plate and pulled out a piece of slab installed in the rear part. That is, I pierced the target on through.

According to experts, the British could use the T-72 tank of modification M or M1 to perform the role of a target.

The ongoing upgrading of the Challenger 2 is aimed at Germanizing this purely British car. This is due to the fact that the gun Rh120L55A1 is designed and made by the German concern Rheinmetall. The tests were carried out using the standard DM53 ammunition, which was also produced in Germany. But that's not all. The plans for modernization is the question of installing the German MTU883 power unit and Renk transmissions on the tank - again from Germany.

The Germans, in particular Rheinmetall, practically bought out the entire British tank-building industry. As a result, they were able to gain control over the division engaged in designing combat vehicles of the British firm BAE Systems.

A bit of history

Challenger 2 was removed from serial production in 2009. Those machines that remained in the arsenal of the British Armed Forces are constantly being upgraded.
