Artificial intelligence in the service of the aerospace forces of Russia

Scientists and engineers from the Russian company Tactical Missiles began developing cruise missiles with built-in artificial intelligence. This was announced by the head of the corporation Boris Obnosov at the international aerospace exhibition MAKS. Such missiles will be able to hit targets with great accuracy without causing any damage to civilians.

Now, no one will be surprised by the introduction of elements of artificial intelligence in robotic systems, however, it takes a long time before the technology will be used everywhere.

Boris Obnosov reports that a lot of work is being done in this direction. Nevertheless, it is impossible to do without difficulties: serious fundamental research is needed to achieve the desired results. Some successes have been achieved now, but it will take several more years to fully master the technology.

Also in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper, Boris Obnosov mentioned rockets, which independently choose tactics and the method of hitting the target. So far it remains only to dream of such a technology and such a high level of development of rocket technology. Not spared the issue of self-learning missiles, which are actively developing in the United States and Europe. Boris Obnosov believes that this is still far away, and only by 2050 will Russia have such a technology. The advantage of a self-learning rocket is that the artificial intelligence built into it almost never makes a mistake analyzing millions of scenarios. The head of "Tactical Missile Weapons" compared it with a game of chess with a computer, whose capabilities in analyzing and predicting further moves far exceed any abilities of the human brain.

Viktor Bondarev, the head of the Russian aerospace forces, also announced the intentions to equip the missiles with artificial intelligence.

The advantage of the technology is that the rocket independently evaluates the air and radar situation and selects the direction of movement, bending around the terrain. Without human control, the cruise missile itself determines whether it is necessary to change course, how fast it is to fly, and what goal to hit. In addition, the self-guided projectile is able to deceive the air defense (anti-aircraft defense) of the enemy and electronic countermeasures.

The first flight of a new generation strategic bomber is planned for 2019. Test missiles scheduled for a later date.

Tactical Missiles Corporation is a leader in the development of such weapons. In addition, the company includes 30 enterprises, which are located in different regions of Russia.

In addition, in St. Petersburg, specialists from the Pribor scientific and production association created special 57-mm artillery ammunition with built-in artificial intelligence for remote blasting.

At first glance it may seem that such a projectile is no different from the usual. However, the built-in miniature fuse with artificial intelligence allows you to adjust the ammunition so that it will explode only after a certain time, which is automatically adjusted by the computer depending on the distance to the target. Hitting the target, the rocket creates a cloud of thousands of shrapnel balls. Such a projectile is capable of hitting targets of very small size: for example, a drone or a radio-controlled quadrocopter.
