Recently, a rather amusing incident occurred: the journalists of two central Russian TV channels at once allegedly accidentally shot a draft of the latest strategic weapons system. It was at a meeting with the president on national defense issues. Secret information was broadcast and was shown to millions of television viewers, then, however, the stories were removed.
Secret Russian torpedo Status-6
What was this report about and what was so secret, Russian journalists showed by chance or intentionally? In the plot was shown the draft secret torpedo "Status-6", the successful completion of which can seriously affect the global balance of power.
We are talking about a torpedo equipped with a powerful nuclear charge, which can approach enemy coasts at high speed and great depth and cause significant damage to the enemy’s military facilities and its economic infrastructure.
In fact, the Status-6 is hard to call a torpedo in the usual sense of the word. Rather, it is a miniature submarine, which is very difficult to detect with the currently existing means. This torpedo is planned to be equipped with a nuclear power plant and a thermonuclear charge, with a capacity of 10 megatons. The charge will receive additional funds to increase the radioactive contamination of the area after the explosion.
The caliber of this supertorpedo will be 1.6 meters, length - 24 meters. The nuclear power plant will allow the device to reach speeds of up to 185 km / h and sink to a depth of 1 km.
Given the huge length of the US coastline, as well as the location in the coastal areas of the main military bases and industrial centers, the use of such weapons would be a very unpleasant surprise for Americans.
In addition, the main damaging factors of such weapons should be radioactive contamination of the area and tsunami, which will inevitably arise as a result of the detonation of such a powerful ammunition. Some experts have already calculated that even a relatively small tsunami can inflict enormous human and material losses. When undermining the warhead with a capacity of 10 megatons, the tsunami will be much more.
This idea is not new. Academician Sakharov also developed a project for such weapons. Similar works during the Cold War were conducted both in the USSR and in the USA. How successful they were is unknown. In the US, underwater drones are currently under development, but their main task is to detect enemy submarines.
True or fake
The main issue is the reality of the existence of such a device in the Russian military. Or advanced developments in this direction.
Having no reliable information, except for the television spot, it is difficult to say something about this. In general, this is more like a stuffing, another attempt to intimidate Western "partners." This information perfectly fits into the outline of the latest events: shooting cruise missiles costing several million dollars each at sheds and donkeys of terrorists, using strategic aviation to destroy them.
All this looks like a demonstration of force, only not before terrorists, but before "partners." Like, look what we can: there are missiles, bombers are still flying. And if you do not feel the Russian military power, then you can send a miracle torpedo to New York.
Only the use of such weapons will definitely mean the beginning of a nuclear war, and there will not be much difference how to destroy a city: with the help of a radioactive tsunami or as a result of hitting several megaton warheads.
