New ammunition arrives in US Marine Corps

The United States Department of Defense signed a contract with Federal Cartridge for the supply of ammunition MK 318 mod 0. The purchased cartridges will go to units and units of the naval forces and marines of the United States.

Improved ammunition designed for firing from US assault rifles M4 and M4A1.

In accordance with the terms of the agreement, Federal Cartridge will supply a batch of ammunition to the troops totaling $ 41.2 million.

Ammunition MK 318 mod 0 should replace the cartridge M855, used by the American army since the 80s of the last century. It is planned to complete the delivery at the end of 2023.

The MK 318 mod 0 cartridges will add conditionally considered as armor-piercing new M855A1 cartridges that are already stored in the arsenals of the US Marines. In the United States military, the purchase is explained by the fact that the MK 318 mod 0 ammunition is better suited to the use of short-barreled versions of the M4 and M4A1 carbines, significantly increasing their firepower.

The MK 318 mod 0 cartridge is equipped with a hollow-tip bullet that looks completely identical to the M855. The ballistic characteristics of the ammunition delivered to the American troops are almost similar to those in service with M855 cartridges.

The peculiarity of the MK 318 mod 0 is its destructive force, which ensures the safety of the trajectory of the bullet and the destruction of the target behind an insignificant obstacle, for example, behind glass or thin metal plating.
