The adoption of the Swiss law on the export of weapons almost knocked down a successful company. There was an urgent need to do something. The solution was found when the company decided in 1970 to unite with one of the oldest German weapons companies - J. P. Sauer und Sohn GmbH.
Sauer is known primarily for its hunting rifles, which are still highly valued by hunters. Also in 1938, this company developed the Sauer 38H, a revolutionary semi-automatic pistol for its time, which was widely used by German troops during the Second World War.
Immediately after the end of the Second World War, Sauer stopped producing pistols, remaining only one of the leaders in the production of high-quality hunting small arms. SIG's proposal was very popular with the management, and in 1970 a new weapon company entered the world market - Sieg Sauer. The first joint development was the SIG P220 pistol, which modifications are still being produced.
