Review of the newest BMP "Kurganets"

The Russian army has chosen the path of unification and reducing the number of types of military equipment that are in service. Today, the Russian army is armed with three main battle tanks, several types of infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers. This is not counting the assault vehicles (BMD) and many special machines. The same situation was in the days of the Soviet Union. This diversity is quite difficult and expensive to maintain, so for more than a decade the idea of ​​unifying all this armored diversity has been hovering in the minds of the military.

The BMP-3 was developed as a single vehicle for the entire Soviet army. On its base they planned to build equipment for the ground forces, marines and airborne forces. However, it did not work out.

The history of the creation of the BMP "Kurganets"

The idea of ​​unifying light tracked vehicles was not abandoned. The appearance of the program "Kurganets" is connected with it. This program began a long time ago, for the first time Colonel-General Sergey Mayev mentioned it in the distant 2004. Its goal was to create a single unified tracked platform, on the basis of which it was possible to create different armored vehicles.

In addition, the level of protection of light tracked vehicles, which is currently in service, has long ceased to suit the military. To increase the level of security, you need to create a car with a new body, a new layout and armor made using modern materials and technologies. The limit of modernization of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles with which the troops are armed today has been exhausted in this direction.

The current prototype of this platform was planned to be demonstrated in 2012, but these plans were thwarted. In 2013, at the exhibition, which was held in Nizhny Tagil, the current model of the new BMP Kurganets was presented for the first time. This car was going to show the general public the following year, at the parade in honor of Victory Day, the demonstration had to be postponed to 2018. The emergence of a new infantry fighting vehicle was one of the main intrigues of the 2018 Victory Parade.

Today there are plans to start mass production of these machines in 2018. The development of "Kurgantsa" is carried out by the concern "Tractor Plants", and the new machines will be produced at the Kurgan Machine Building Plant. Dozens of domestic enterprises took part in the development of the new machine.

In the future, the infantry fighting vehicle "Kurganets 25" should become the main BMP of the Russian army and completely replace the outdated BMP-3.

Description of BMP "Kurganets"

Today we do not have complete information about the new universal Kurganets tracked platform. There is only scattered information published in various media. Perhaps because of this reason, our review of this car will not be quite complete.

The main difference of "Kurgan" is a modular design principle, which was used in its creation. This greatly simplifies and cheapens the production of new machines, their repair and maintenance. Now it is known about plans to build on the base of the BMP Kurganets a new tracked armored personnel carrier, an airborne combat vehicle (BMD). There are plans to create an anti-aircraft complex on the basis of this platform, which will replace, created in the USSR, the Shilka and Tunguska. There are also plans to make an evacuation vehicle, a command and control vehicle, a self-propelled anti-tank complex equipped with guided missiles, an intelligence vehicle, an ambulance.

There is information that on the basis of the universal platform "Kurganets" there will also be created vehicles for the Airborne Forces and the marines. True, for landing this BMP is too heavy (25 tons).

The infantry fighting vehicle "Kurganets" was built according to the classic for all BMP scheme: the engine and the power plant is located in front of the machine, providing a higher level of protection for the nose. Rear landing compartment and ramp (with a door), which allows infantry to parachute during the battle under the cover of the body of the machine. A similar layout scheme will be applied on all machines created on the basis of "Kurgan".

Weight BMP "Kurganets" is approximately 25 tons. The crew of the car - three people, also in the car can be placed eight paratroopers. To enhance the protection of the crew and paratroopers on the BMP "Kurganets" used combined armor, which consists of steel and ceramics. In addition, the level of protection can be increased by using special armor modules, which will be installed on the BMP, depending on the task to be performed. An active protection complex will be installed on the BMP, it will not be on an armored personnel carrier. There is information about a special armored capsule, which will be the crew and members of the landing group. It will seriously increase the level of protection for military personnel, especially against landmines and land mines.

According to Russian military experts, the Kurganets infantry fighting vehicle has no analogues in the world in its security. The level of protection of the BTR, which will be created on the basis of this platform, is likely to be somewhat lower.

The complex of active protection (KAZ) will be able to withstand even tank armor-piercing shells. Probably, the car will be installed KAZ "Drozd-2". The ammunition and weapon module will be isolated from the crew, which will also seriously increase the security of the vehicle.

BMP "Kurganets" will be armed with an uninhabited combat module "Epoch", with remote control. It consists of a 30-mm cannon 2A42, a PKTM machine gun and a Kornet-EM missile system. Anti-tank complex "Cornet-EM" can conduct effective fire at a distance of up to ten kilometers. Ammunition automatic cannon - 500 rounds. Shooting will be able to commander of the machine and the operator-gunner. The module is equipped with a perfect fire control system (LMS), there are sights, both for the commander and for the gunner. The module is controlled by a computer, the gunner sees the target on the monitor, points it, and then the machine itself fires at it, up to its complete destruction. The OMS can automatically search for a target, and do it in several ranges at once. The new machine will be able to detect even disguised targets.

The weapon has an elevation angle of seventy degrees and can hit airborne low-flying targets.

Perhaps in the future, the Bakhcha-U combat module, which includes a 100-mm gun, will be installed on a universal battle platform.
