TT pistol: history and design features

TT pistol sample of 1933 - the first Soviet self-loading army pistol. It was developed by the talented gunsmith designer Fedor Vasilyevich Tokarev in 1930. The TT pistol was created as a result of tests conducted in the 1920s with the aim of developing modern semi-automatic weapons to replace the outdated Nagan. At that time, the famous Mauser pistol was popular. This weapon was purchased in large quantities, and the troops appreciated its powerful 7.63 mm cartridge. It was under this munition and decided to create a new weapon.

The history of the pistol TT

The Tula Tokarev pistol (TT) was created as part of the competition for a new pistol in 1929. An analysis of the weapons of the Red Army showed that its small arms were morally obsolete. Therefore, it was decided, among other things, to consider new versions of pistols. Especially for this, drawings and sketches of various designers were submitted to the competition. A thorough comparative analysis of various systems, cartridges and sketches was made. As a result, the development of F.V. Tokarev was recognized as the best, but as a regular cartridge for a TT pistol it was recommended to use a Mauser cartridge, measuring 7.62 × 25 mm. As a result, the design of the Tokarevian pistol had to be redone and refined.

Commission requirements:

  • the weapon must have enhanced accuracy;
  • Tokarev TT pistol should be safe to handle;
  • the device must have a lightweight descent effort.

Disadvantages were eliminated in a few months. The designer has made a model of a pistol TT, as well as its prototype. In December 1930, it was decided to conduct additional tests, during which the TT showed its best. It was the best combat option from all samples submitted to the competition. The new combat pistol was adopted by the Army, where it acquired its legendary unofficial name "TT" ("Tula Tokarev").

However, the pistol at that time still had some structural and technological flaws:

  • the safety cocking device allowed involuntary shots;
  • the size and design of the store was such that sometimes the holder fell out at the most inopportune moment;
  • the holder has not been modified - the cartridges are tilted, and the pistol is jammed;
  • powerful cartridge, more suitable for submachine guns, quickly weared the bolt "TT";
  • the barrel of the pistol did not fit into the rifle embrasure - the weapon could not shoot from the tank;
  • the gun had a low reliability and low resource - only 200-300 shots.

Within three years, the identified deficiencies were eliminated. In 1933, after various upgrades, the troops received a new weapon, the TT model of 1933. It was this combat pistol that went through the Great Patriotic War, in which its main flaw came to light — an insufficiently large caliber. The bullet 7.62 did not have such a stopping effect, which the German pistol bullet of 9 mm had. In addition, the sensitivity of the weapon design to contamination, mechanical damage and low temperatures was revealed.

Design features

  1. The TT gun has a simple design that provides low production cost, as well as ease of maintenance - simple assembly and disassembly.
  2. Atypical for pistols, a rather powerful cartridge provides muzzle energy of the order of 500 J and a very high penetrating power.
  3. The gun does not have a fuse as a separate part, so the safety of the trigger provides its functions.
  4. The barrel provides good shooting accuracy and short easy descent, an experienced shooter can hit a small target at a distance of over 50 meters. The shape of the TT is flat and compact, which is quite convenient for hidden wearing.
  5. Impact mechanism made a single unit, which simplified the factory assembly.

Airguns

Today, there are several variants of 4.5 mm air guns:

  • Gletcher TT.
  • Gletcher TT NBB.
  • TTP "Sobr".
  • Crosman C-TT.

Gletcher TT airgun is a replica of the Tula Tokarev pistol. The airglass is equipped with a Blowback system, which allows the slide frame to move backward when fired and create high realism when firing, as there is a visual resemblance to a pistol shot. Glutcher has overall characteristics identical to the original, shooting with pre-cocking.

Gletcher has the following characteristics:

  • Caliber - 4.5 mm.
  • The speed of the bullet - 110 m / s.
  • Store capacity - 18 shots.
  • Energy source - CO2 12g.
  • Bullet type - 4.5 mm balls.
  • Power - less than 3.0 joules.

Gletcher TT Blow back externally completely copies the TT pistol. Only the holes for the screws on the right side somewhat spoil the view.

Airsoft guns

The manufacturer of airsoft weapons, the company SRC, has relatively recently appeared on the market, but has already managed to win the respect of the adherents of this game, especially its version of the SRC TT-33 pistol that simulates recoil when fired. The high quality of Taiwanese weapons SRC was the main reason for the popularity of the manufacturer in the world.

SRC TT-33 has the following characteristics:

  • Drive type - gas.
  • Barrel length - 91 mm.
  • The material of the model is metal.
  • Total length - 195 mm.
  • The initial velocity of the shot - 90-100 m / s.
  • Gun weight - 611 g.
  • The capacity of the store is 11 balls.

Traumatic weapon

On the basis of combat TT developed several types of traumatic civilian weapons:

  1. VPO-501 "Leader" - a pistol of traumatic action chambered for 10 × 32 mm.
  2. VPO-509 "Leader-M" - a pistol of traumatic action chambered for 11.43 × 32 mm.
  3. TT-T - traumatic pistol chambered for 10 × 28 mm.
  4. The MP-81 is a traumatic pistol chambered for 9 mm.
  5. TT-GT - traumatic smooth-bore gun chambered for 9 mm.
