Boeing 757: device, modifications and interior review

The Boeing 757 is a medium-haul narrow-body aircraft. This passenger liner was developed by Boeing in 1982. Produced in 2004.

Overview of the salon and the location of the best places

The passenger cabin of the Boeing 757 is able to accommodate from 200 to 280 people (depending on the type of layout and model liner). Places in it, of course, are not the same in terms of convenience and location, so it makes sense to consider the best and worst of them.

In front of the cabin of the aircraft is a business class (or first class, according to some classifications). There is one central passage, and the seats are arranged according to the “2-2” scheme. Chairs are soft, comfortable and, as a rule, do not do without pillows. A nice feature is the fact that these chairs are able to unfold, thus turning into beds for sleeping. In later models, passengers can use multimedia entertainment systems in the form of headphones and screens with a large selection of games, music and movies.

Although the business class places are the best in the Boeing 757, but for some of them there are some (sometimes not very pleasant) disadvantages. For example, places in the first and fourth rows are located near the toilet and utility rooms. Periodic queues, knocking of doors, as well as the light burning even at night do not contribute to proper rest. That is why when booking airline tickets these places are better to take only in the absence of other options.

Behind the seats of business class is an economy class lounge. Here are rows with numbers from 8 to 34 (as shown in the diagram). However, it should be noted that the scheme indicated here is standard for the basic model of the Boeing 757. Information about a particular aircraft can be obtained, for example, when booking tickets on the Internet. Economy class cabin has one central passage, which is somewhat narrower than in business class. The places here are arranged according to the “3-3” scheme. The longitudinal distance between the seats in the economy class is also smaller and is about 80 cm. However, it meets international standards and allows you to stretch your legs, even for people with high stature. In airplanes made after 2000, there may be audio / video entertainment systems for economy class passengers, which allow to brighten up the flight time.

The best in the economy class cabin are places in the 16th row. The convenience of the series is explained by the fact that it is located right next to the emergency exits. This means that the front seat backs have a very limited angle of tilting (or blocked at all) due to the need to ensure easy access to emergency exits. Also among the best places are 8 rows. There are no seats on the contrary, so that no one can limit the already considerable space for the legs. Another nice advantage of these places is that the spacing of food, as a rule, begins from here. This provides passengers with a wider selection of drinks and meals. A not very pleasant feature of these places is that the multimedia screens (if available) and folding tables for meals, as a rule, are built into the armrests. For the 8th row there are special cradles for accommodating infants, which means that passengers with children will most likely fly here. Therefore, seats of the 8th row are not recommended for people who do not tolerate fuss and children's cry, as well as those who want to have a rest in flight.

Seats 15 rows have a limited angle of inclination of the backs (due to the location in front of the emergency exit), but, on the other hand, the seats opposite them also cannot be rejected. And finally, the most unsuccessful ones in the cabin of the economy class of the Boeing 757 are the seats in the last (34, according to the scheme) series. Their extreme inconvenience is due to the location of the toilet facilities for the entire economy class. Here, the queue to the toilet will be incomparably more often compared to the business class, and the sound of slamming doors can annoy and interfere with rest.

History of creation

At the end of the 70s of the 20th century, the Boeing 727 model was morally obsolete, and the airlines wanted a more modern and economical passenger liner. In 1978, it was announced the start of development of the aircraft, which was to replace the 727th Boeing. Eastern Airlines and British Airways immediately became interested in the new model, and they made an order for it first.

Commercial operation of the Boeing 757 began in 1983. The liner immediately gained great popularity in North America and Western Europe, thanks to which the number of orders for it increased. We can say that the Boeing 757 is one of the most successful projects by Boeing. In total for the period from 1982 to 2004 about 1000 aircraft were ordered and produced, most of which fly to this day.

Modifications of the Boeing 757

  • Boeing 757-100 - the initial modification of the aircraft, designed to carry 150 people. It was positioned as a replacement for the outdated Boeing 727, however, due to its low popularity (primarily due to its low passenger capacity), it was discontinued.
  • Boeing 757-200 - the main modification of the liner with a passenger capacity of 200 to 228 people. Commercial exploitation began in 1983.
  • Boeing 757-200F - cargo modification.
  • Boeing 757-300 - modification of greater passenger capacity with an extended fuselage. The range of its flight in comparison with the model 757-200 is less than 800 km. Produced from 1998 to 2004.

Overview of flight performance

The Boeing 757 is a twin-engined low-profile normal aerodynamic configuration. Plumage - single-chin.

Conclusion

The Boeing 757 was initially positioned as a replacement by the order of the outdated model 727 liner on small and medium-haul flights. The efficiency of the 757th, its ease of maintenance provided him with deserved fame, thanks to which this aircraft can be found on airlines today.
