The US military is preparing to receive the Javelin FGM-148F anti-tank missile system (ATGW).
Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) is a company created by Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. She signed a contract with the Pentagon for the manufacture of 2100 complexes of the new Javelin FGM-148F. It is planned that the delivery of ready-to-use complexes will begin in 2020.
The signing of the contract became known on Tuesday, January 29th. During the presentation, it was announced that these anti-tank systems were successfully passed the first tests.
Javelin FGM-148F is an upgrade of the model Javelin FGM-148. It is distinguished by a new warhead. According to representatives of the company JJV, the CU of the new rocket consists of two charges. The first is designed to eliminate the dynamic protection of armor installed on the surface of the tank hull. The second charge must directly pierce the armor. For firing can be used and fragmentation charge. It can be used to destroy enemy personnel and lightly armored vehicles. In addition, with the help of such charges may destroy shelters. It should be noted that the modified version of the ATGM is lighter.
Work on the creation of ATGW is carried out in several stages. The Javelin FGM-148F modification is the result of the work carried out during the second phase. With the next steps, JJV will work to reduce the weight of the product and its price.
