Machine MS-1 (T-18 - the name of the prototype) was the firstborn of the Soviet tank construction. The tank was developed in 1925-1927 on the basis of the captured French car Renault FT-17, captured during the Soviet-Polish war of 1920. Design work was carried out by engineers N. And. Khrulev and P.I. Saltanov together with the specialists of the Izhora plant and the workers of the Moscow plant AMO. The technical site for the development and implementation of the project was the Bolshevik plant, where later mass production of MS-1 tanks began. In total for the period from 1927 to 1931, 959 cars were produced by four production series.
The name of the MC-1 car is an abbreviation of "small tank escort - the first."
Design features
Tank MS-1 had a classic for tracked armored vehicles scheme - armored riveted body, equipped with a rotating hexagonal turret. Armor protection bulletproof. The thickness of the steel rolled sheets on the last modification of the tank in 1931 was 16 mm. The crew of the tank consisted of two people - the driver-mechanic and the commander, performing the functions of loader and gunner. The dimensions of the combat vehicle were as follows: length 3500 mm, width 1800 mm. The weight of the tank in the curb condition was 5.9 tons.

Combat use
Baptism of the firstborn of the Soviet tank building received during the Soviet-Chinese armed conflict on the CER in 1929. The MS-1 tanks removed from service during the 1938-1939 were used as stationary firing points as part of fortified areas on the western border and in the Far East. In the early days of World War II, a certain number of obsolete vehicles took part in border battles.
