Specialists from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, together with representatives of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, completed an assessment of the damage sustained by the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov as a result of an incident involving the sinking of a floating dock.
According to the conclusion of a specially formed commission, the "sea airfield" received 52 damages, which will require about 70 million rubles to eliminate the consequences.
The greatest damage was caused by a 70-ton crane that hit the deck, piercing a torn hole measuring four meters by five meters. All other damages are recognized as minor and subject to normal case repair.
In other words, these damages can be categorized as insignificant, which suggests that their elimination fits within the budget of the Admiral Kuznetsov modernization budget.
Also, experts note that the difficulties encountered will not lead to an increase in repair time, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020. The beginning of the test and transfer of the aircraft carrier to the navy of the Russian Federation is foreseen in 2021.
The floating dock PD-50, used for the modernization of the Admiral Kuznetsov, sank in the Kola Bay on October 30, 2018. One of the tower cranes fell on the opened part of the ship, partially damaging the equipment. The main reason for the incident was called power outages. Then four people suffered, one went missing. Later, one of the wounded died in hospital.
The heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov" was laid at the Black Sea shipbuilding plant in 1982. The structure of the aviation wing of carrier-based aviation includes more than 50 aircraft. In service with TAKR are cruise anti-ship missiles "Granit", anti-aircraft missile and rocket-gun systems "Klinok" and "Chestnut". The ship is also equipped with anti-submarine defense system.
In February last year, the Admiral Kuznetsov returned to Severomorsk from the Mediterranean, where he performed the task of striking militants in the Syrian Arab Republic. For the application of fire destruction used deck fighters Su-33 and MiG-29KR.
