Reasoning on the advantages and disadvantages of carbines for Tiger hunting, as well as SVD rifles, should be started from the understanding that they were not designed with the goal of creating a purely sniper rifle and weapons suitability for firing offhand. However, it is the combination of these two mutually exclusive approaches that makes the Tiger rifle a very practical and versatile civilian weapon.

Of course, the "remake" of a military product does not fit well with the concept of weapons for hunting.
The popularity of the Tiger rifle among hunters is due to its simplicity and reliability, as well as the extreme finish of the design. In contrast to the overly complex import systems, the sniper model of the SVD confirms the talent of designers who have managed to create simple and at the same time the most reliable and technological weapons.
The story of the appearance of the Tigre hunting rifle
In 1963, the outdated model, the sniper trilinea, was replaced by a sniper self-discharge rifle developed by E. Dragunov. This was preceded by a competition for the creation of such weapons for arming the Soviet army.
Before getting into mass production, the Dragunov rifle went through all stages of field tests, including combat. The first introductory batch of weapons of this type was released in 1963 in the amount of 200 units. Subsequent mass production from 1964 was entrusted to the plant IZHMASH.

Since that time, the SVD carbine served as a standard for sniper weapons, which expanded the territorial boundaries of its use, adopted a rifle into service in many countries.
The carabiner / tiger appeared in the late 1970s - it is a hunting modification of the Dragunov army rifle. This weapon uses the same cheap rifle cartridges, but equipped with half-shell bullets. The rifle is used for hunting purposes (for large and medium animals), regardless of climatic conditions. Its main characteristics: increased accuracy of fire, reliability, ease of operation and fairly light weight.
To date, the weapon is presented in two versions: "Tiger", as well as the export version of "Tiger-1", created in 1996. The self-loading hunting rifle uses a 7.62x53 / 54R cartridge with a semi-shell bullet weighing 13 g.
Specifications:
- Chuck - 7, 62mm;
- The bullet has a weight of 13 g;
- The bullet has a speed of 730 m / s;
- Sighting range (open sight) 300 m;
- Shop holds (ammo) 5 pcs., 10 pcs .;
- Total rifle length 1200 mm;
- Total weight 3.9 kg
- Used sniper optics PSO-1.
Constructional characteristics of a carbine Tigr
The reloading of the carbine in the "automatic" mode is carried out through the use of energy emitted from the powder gases discharged from the stem channel directly into the gas chamber, as well as energy resulting from the return of springs. The bolt is locked to 3 lugs by turning around its axis as a result of the sliding frame. Shooting is a single shot. The right side of the receiver is equipped with a flag fuse. Chrome-plated coating is applied to the barrel and chamber. Drummer spring loaded.
The material for the manufacture of the butt and overlays on the trunk can be wood or impact-resistant plastic. On the wooden butt there is a rubber nape.
The design of the open sight combines the aiming bar and the front sight, adjustable in two planes, while the firing range reaches 300 m.
The left side of the trunk box has a unified base designed for mounting aiming optics. The optical sight can not be removed in the case of aimed shooting through an open sight.
Manufacturing technology of a carbine Tiger
Trunks for SVD and "Tigrov" are made using a unique technology. The billet for the barrel is subjected to deep drilling under the influence of high oil pressure, after which the channel is polished using an electric discharge.
The next step is electro-erosion. It happens this way: the billet is placed in a special solution, and an instrument is inserted into the channel that sets the shape of the future rifling. Applying precise rifled lines to the smooth surface of the barrel is due to the action of an electric discharge. In simple terms, one can say that the excess metal is simply “washed out”, thereby forming rifling. This is the uniqueness of the technological process used in the Dragunov rifles.
In the future, the outer surface of the barrel is subjected to turning and heat treatment. The final operation is chroming the bore, which is not typical in the manufacture of sniper trunks.
Accuracy of shooting completely allows you to use a SVD rifle and a "Tiger" as an accurate hunting weapon. The average accuracy for them is 50-60 mm per 100 m, while the standard for accuracy is 80 mm.
The barrel of the SVD and the long Tigr rifle has a length of 620 mm, and the barrel of the Tiger in a short version is 530 mm. The barrel resource claimed by the manufacturers is 6000 shots.
Carbines "Tiger": modifications for ammunition
- Carabiner "Tiger" is designed under the cartridge caliber 7.62x54R;
- The Tigr-308 carabiner was designed for the caliber (7.62х51) 308Win;
- The Tigr-30-06 carabiner was designed for a cartridge with a caliber (7.62x63) 30-06Sprg;
- The Tigr-9 carabiner is designed for a 9.3x64 caliber cartridge.
Variations of butts designs:
- Orthopedic, made of wood (has a cut for the thumb);
- Hunter (characterized by a slightly pulled back hook for descent);
- Plastic, manufactured by the type of ATS (equipped with a swivel cheek, facilitating convenient shooting with a telescopic sight);
- Foldable (tubular metal butt and at the same time the pistol grip fold to the right side). Equipped with a swivel cheek for easy shooting with a telescopic sight. The folded stock reduces the length of the carabiner by 260 mm.
Variations of the design of the front sight:
- With a long cylindrical flame arrester;
- With a short conical flame arrester;
- Without flame arrester.
In the standard version, the rifle is equipped with a ramrod, accessories in a pencil case and an oiler. Upon request, the carbine is equipped with a sight optics with a bracket, a special case and a belt.

Carabiner "Tiger" today remains one of the best semi-automatic models of weapons of domestic production. Among its advantages - sufficient accuracy and simplicity in use. The rifle gives the owner confidence and confirms the glory of the sniper rifle, which has become the most massive in the history of mankind.
