Indra-2018 Russian-Indian exercises started in India

In India, the annual Indra-2108 Russian-Indian military exercises of the armed forces of the two countries started on Monday. From the Russian side, servicemen of the reinforced motorized rifle battalion of the combined arms army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation were involved in the maneuvers.

For the transfer of units involved military transport aviation of aerospace forces of the Russian Federation, namely the IL-76. Three days before the start of the exercise, the crews made a flight from the Knevichi airport in Vladivostok to the Indian air base Gwalior. Then, by road, the Russian military was delivered to the Babina training ground in the northwestern state of Uttar Pradesh. There are 250 soldiers of the Eastern Military District in the field camp.

It is assumed that the motorized infantry will solve combat training tasks using Russian T-90 tanks and infantry fighting vehicles BMP-2 that are in service with Indian partners.

The exercise program provides for the development of joint planning and conduct of a peacekeeping operation, interaction between the headquarters of the units of the ground forces of both countries, as well as directly coordinated tactical actions of ground units.

Doctrines will last until November 28th. In addition to training at the site, there will also be joint lectures, shooting exercises, demonstration of weapons and military equipment, as well as sports competitions favorite by the military.

Indra exercises have been held since 2003. Until 2013, they were held alternately in Russia and India. The forces and means of the ground forces and the navy were attracted to participate.

Since 2014, land (antiterrorist) and sea phases have been conducted separately. In the same year, aviation exercises were held.

A year ago, the military personnel of the aviation and land units of the Eastern Military District and the ground units of the Indian Army, with the involvement of fleet forces, took part in interspecific maneuvers at the Far Eastern ranges and in the coastal sea zone.

At the same time, for the first time in the history of Russian aerospace forces, mixed international crews flew on Russian technology, piloting Su-30M2 fighter jets, An-26 military transport aircraft and Mi-8AMTSH helicopters.
