Gazpromneft reported that two icebreaking vessels of the new generation, Andrey Vilkitsky and Alexander Sannikov, began operating in the Arctic zone of Russia.
This pair has strengthened the logistics of year-round hydrocarbon delivery from the Gates of the Arctic terminal to the floating oil storage facility located in the Kola Bay. From this storage hydrocarbons are supplied to the external market.
In January 2019, the icebreaking vessel “Alexander Vilkitsky” made the transition along the Northern Sea and joined its “twin” “Alexander Sannikov”.
The icebreakers were assigned the task of ensuring safe and uninterrupted navigation of the tanker fleet in the area of the Gates of the Arctic terminal.
This terminal ships oil that is produced at the Novoportovskoye field. It is located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. By the way, this deposit is considered to be promising. The volume of its production last year grew by more than 40%.
In total, the share of oil production in the Arctic has already exceeded 20% of the total volume produced by Gazpromneft. The company makes a strategic bet on the development of this region. This requires additional development of logistics, and therefore its own icebreakers are a guarantee of uninterrupted and efficient operation of the hydrocarbon transportation system.

"Andrey Vilkitsky" and "Alexander Sannikov" - ice-breaking vessels operating on a diesel-electric course. They are created by the project Aker Arc 130A (IBSV01). Their construction was carried out at the Vyborg shipyard.
The maximum speed is 30 km per hour.
Icebreakers are equipped with a special (thruster) device, which significantly increases maneuverability.
It should be noted that most of the equipment installed on ships is of Russian production, including navigation.
