An-24 passenger turboprop aircraft

An-24 is a turboprop passenger aircraft, designed for lines of medium and small length. An-24 in Soviet times was one of the most popular aircraft in the country, it provided a third of passenger traffic. The reason for the high demand for such a liner lay in its ability to land on unprepared small airfields, as well as the ground. Salon An-24 by today's standards is quite noisy and small. Nevertheless, it has a luggage compartment, a kitchen and a toilet. Passenger seats are arranged in a row in a proportion of 2 + 2.

The An-24 has a maximum capacity of up to 52 passengers, it can carry them over a distance of 1,850 km. The liner has quite a few modifications, the most popular of which is the En 26. Since the 1960s, more than 1,200 units have been produced. Today, the An-24 aircraft is manufactured in China under the Xian Y-7 brand. An-24 was the main aircraft, had excellent characteristics, flew on local airlines of Russia and the USSR, including in the CIS countries. The people of the plane got the nickname "Nastya" ("Nastya").

The history of the aircraft

The development of the An-24 passenger twin-engine aircraft, designed for use on local airlines, was launched in 1958 at the Antonov GSOKB-473 in accordance with Resolution No. 1417-656 of the USSR Council of Ministers. In accordance with the mission, the aircraft was to carry passengers at a range of up to 400 km with an equivalent load of 4,000 kg and developing a cruising speed of up to 450 km / h. It was planned to use the engine AI-24.

The An-24 made its first flight in October 1959, it was piloted by the crew of G. I. Lysenko. State and factory tests took place in 1961. An-24 serial production was launched in Kiev at the plant number 473 in 1962. In September 1962, the first technical take-off and landing with passengers took place. In October 1962, the aircraft began to operate on the highway Kherson-Kiev. Production of the aircraft lasted 1979. In total, more than 1,200 airplanes were produced, 1028 of them produced the Aviant aircraft factory in Kiev.

Design features

  1. The design of the An-24 is a cantilevered high-plane from an all-metal shell. The design of the fuselage is semi-monocoque beam-stringer type. The cross section of the fuselage is made of two arcs of different diameter. The fuselage includes a passenger compartment, a crew cabin, a luggage compartment, a wardrobe, a toilet and a pantry. The passenger compartment is separated from other rooms by partitions. The fuselage is completely sealed.
  2. The wing is two-spar, trapezoidal in plan, coffered, large elongation. Mechanization of the wing includes 2 single-slot deviating flaps on the center section, split ailerons on the consoles and 2 retractable double-slot flaps. The keel is equipped with forkil. Chassis with nose strut, tricycle, retractable. The chassis has a fairly high cross.
  3. The power plant includes 2 AI-24 series 2 ATDs with four-bladed AV-72T screws, as well as a TG-16 autonomous launch unit. Fuel is located in the center section of the wing in 4 soft tanks. Specific fuel consumption is 36 g / pass.-Km. Hourly fuel consumption is 800 kg.
  4. Aircraft control double, includes the original steering column, located horizontally. Radio equipment and flight-navigation complex make it possible to fly in a variety of weather conditions, night and day, to land, even with poor visibility.
