Navy of the Russian Federation is preparing to receive new submarines

The navy of the Russian Federation is preparing for the commissioning of a large batch of new diesel-electric submarines of Project 677 Lada. In total, the Russian Navy must receive at least 12 submarines of this class.

The submarine was developed by specialists of the Rubin central engineering bureau. Based on its main characteristics, the submarine belongs to the fourth generation of non-nuclear submarines.

Submarine class "Lada" is designed to solve a wide range of tasks. Such as fighting submarines and surface ships, defeating ground targets of a potential enemy, setting up minefields, as well as transportation of special-purpose units.

A distinctive feature of the ship is its low noise level.

The lead diesel-electric submarine of the project 677 "St. Petersburg" was laid on the "Admiralty shipyards" in the distant 1997. It was possible to complete the first stage of the sea trials in December 2005. In 2010, the submarine was only introduced into the combat strength of the Russian Navy. From the same year, the submarine is in trial operation, which was originally planned to be completed by 2017, but it continues to the present.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation considered the project 677 boats as a base submarine with an air-independent power plant and planned to purchase 20 units of this marine equipment.

The displacement of Project 677 Lada submarines is 1765 tons, length - 66.8 meters, width - 7.1 meters. The submerged speed does not exceed 21 knots, the immersion depth is no more than 300 meters, and the autonomy is 45 days. The crew - 36 people. Airborne armament includes six 533-mm torpedo tubes with ammunition of 18 torpedoes.

In September of this year, the Admiralty Shipyards launched the first serial 677 diesel-electric submarine, named Kronstadt. The completion of another submarine of this class, the Great Luke, is expected in 2021.
