In the next couple of years, it is planned to improve 22 helicopters. The main change that will affect them is the installation of the girder holder for aerial bombs. The modernization will take place on the basis of the Syzran branch of the Zhukovsky and Gagarin Air Force Academy.
The decision to create helicopter bombers was taken at the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation after analyzing the combat events in Syria.
According to experts, similarly improved helicopters can be used as light bombers. And thus it is possible to significantly reduce the cost of departure. Such a use of helicopters can be very effective during anti-terrorist operations. In addition to the fact that high-explosive bombs to equip helicopters do not constitute major technical difficulties, and with proper placement of the holders, the helicopter's maneuverability will in no way decrease.
Recall, according to the plan of the Ministry of Defense, helicopters will install high-explosive bombs like FAB-500. Its weight is up to 540 kilograms, including directly explosives - 300 kg. The bomb can be dropped from a height of 200 m to 10 km.
