The form of the military personnel of the Russian Navy has its own rather long history. For decades, it has undergone many changes. In the article we will consider a brief history of the form, its various variants and principles of wearing.
History of Navy Dresses
The history of the form of the Navy originates from the time of Peter the Great. By order of the mighty manager-emperor in 1696, the Boyar Duma decided to create the first navy in the Russian state. October 30 is traditionally considered the founding day of the Russian fleet.
With his creation, Peter I introduced a uniform for the sailor and representative of the lower ranks, created from the marine items of the Dutch fleet employees, namely a gray or green jacket, made of coarse wool, short green pants, stockings and a wide-brimmed hat. Shoes for the navy served as leather shoes. This set was also replaced with an everyday work suit. It included a spacious shirt, canvas pants, a three-cornered hat and a camisole. The sailors were dressed in it during the Mediterranean campaign of Ushakov.
The working uniform, which included a set of gray canvas trousers and a shirt, was worn during any ship works, and a white shirt with an azure collar was worn over it. This costume was approved as a uniform for the rank and file in the summer of 1874.
About Navy Form Fabrics
Up to the 80s of the 20th century, military everyday work uniforms for military personnel of the Russian Navy were made of lightweight canvas, which was easy to clean from the most difficult to remove stains. The Black Sea Fleet was dressed in white work clothes, the rest - most often in blue. A little later, the color of the form changed to blue / dark blue, and the material became mainly cotton fabric. The new form is sewed in the most diverse atelier, using all sorts of not always good-quality materials. New (approved at the moment) uniforms can be any color in the range of shades of black and blue.
Sailor casual
What is the most common naval suit of the new model for 2018? A naval costume, or, to use the jargon of the Navy servicemen, a working dress (also a sailor's robe) is a form of working clothing for sailors, cadets of naval schools, as well as foremen of the Russian Navy. A sailor’s costume consists of the following garments:
- Shirt.
- Trousers.
- Sailor collar.
- Footwear.
- Headdress.
Seaman's shirt
The shirt, worn, as a rule, with a special collar, cut along the pattern of a classic sailor's shirt. Its back and integral before - without seams, with a wide turn-down collar. There is a patch pocket in front, and an inner pocket on the back. There is a slit that fastens with a button. Sleeves sleeves straight, vtachnye; simple pogonchiki, corresponding to the title. An obligatory element of sailor clothes is a white tag with an indelible combat number. Such a shirt is worn, and during service on the watch should be tucked into his pants. In the cold over the set put on his overcoat, jacket or coat.
Sailor pants
The sailor’s working trousers are made of dark blue cotton fabric. They have side pockets, buckles on the neck, and a belt with special loops (loops) for the belt. The belt is mainly made of pigskin, on its badge is the emblem of the Russian Navy. On the buckle of the sample that existed in the USSR, an anchor with a star was depicted.
Sailor collar
The collar is also made of cotton material, worn over the shirt, has a lining and three white stripes, symbolizing the victories of the Navy in such battles as the Czech, Gangut and Sinop. Front naval clothing also contains a sailor's collar.
Sailor's hat
There are several headdresses in the uniform sets of the Navy. One of them is a trump cap, to which is attached a ribbon with the name of the ship or with the inscription "Navy". The tape is worn on the band. He, like the bottom with the walls, made of wool. On the crown of the headdress is a cockade, which is a golden anchor. In the USSR, the cockade was in the form of a so-called “crab” - a red star framed in golden leaves. The summer cap is sewn of white fabric (supplied with a removable cover). The winter hat is a black fur hat with earflaps.
In 2014, the plans were to introduce a woolen hat instead of hats with earflaps for outdoor work. Also in 2014, there were also other developments of the form of the new sample, however, some innovations did not take root.
In addition, a kit of everyday form includes beret.
There is a set of headgear and cap. On the front side of the cap there is a golden cockade in the form of an anchor. In the form of the Soviet-era Navy, the cap was intended for submarine crews. Had a black color and differed in type - for privates and for officers. Relatively recently, the cap was adopted as part of the uniform wearing the entire composition of the Navy. Its semicircular style was replaced by a rectangular one. Also, the cap received white edging, which previously were intended only for midshipmen and officers' headgear, as well as a cockade in exchange for a star.
Footwear
Attached to the above suit are shoes, sewn from Russian leather, with thick soles, referred to in the navy jargon as “burnouts” or “reptiles”. Not so long ago, shoes were sewn with laces, but now, in 2018, they also have rubber inserts (they were introduced in 2014). In areas where the climate is harsh, soldiers wear barreled boots. The tropical form involves the wearing of sandals.
Also in the complete set of everyday form there is a striped vest, gloves and a hat.
Casual uniform of officers and midshipmen
Military casual uniforms for officers and warrant officers include: a black or white woolen cap, a jacket made of the same material, a black coat, a cream shirt, a black tie with gold trim, a muffler, black pants, a waist belt, gloves and semi-boots, low shoes or boots as shoes. It is also allowed to include in the everyday kit a black foil cap, a wool sweater of the same color, a demi-season jacket or a raincoat and a blue wool tunic.
Casual Women's Navy Uniform
It is a set of black wool, black woolen skirt, cream-colored blouse, traditional gold tie and belt, black shoes (or shoes) and physical tights. Also included is a jacket.
A winter casual uniform implies wearing a karakul black beret, a coat of wool, skirt, blouse, belt, tie and tights from the summer set described above, black muffler and gloves. Shoes or boots serve as shoes. The jacket is also present in the winter version of the form. Allowed to wear a sweater, demi-season raincoat, field caps and earflaps.
It is worth noting that some of the elements that exist in the kit now have been introduced in 2014.
Now, having considered the daily fleet attire, let us turn to other various types of sea uniforms. There are several types of them, among which such as:
- Parade.
- Office.
- Dembelskaya.
Also, since the times of the USSR, there is a division into winter and summer forms.

A white / black cap (summer or winter / woolen) or a ushankan hat, sewn of black fur (colonels, senior officers and captains of the first rank wear an astrakhan hat with a visor), serves as a headdress in the grand dress set
An obligatory element of any type of dress uniform of an officer and midshipman is a black tie, with golden hook. Also included is a wool jacket: black (front) or white (summer). Black woolen trousers, a white shirt and a golden belt are the basis of any dress uniform.

Demobel form of the Navy
Demobilian marine form - a very special "informal" form for the employee. This is not just a set of clothes - but a manifestation of the soldier’s fantasy and pride. Such a set is made according to the personal preferences of the employee. The tradition to make a form specifically for dismissal came to us from the USSR.
Dembel form can also be divided into several types:
- Strict.
- Decorated.
The decorated dembelu form, in turn, can be informally divided into:
- Moderately decorated.
- Medium decorated.
- Richly decorated.
Accordingly, it makes sense to consider in more detail the strict (statutory) demobilization form, in view of the liberty of drawing up a set of decorated form. It most often consists of a stitched tunic, with attached emblems of ancestral troops, golden buttons, awards and badges, an aglet and traditional shoes, a belt and a cap (beret).
