The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation presented a video summarizing the military operation in Syria. By the beginning of the operation in September 2015, about 8% of the country's territory was under the control of the Syrian armed forces, the rest was at the disposal of terrorists and other illegal formations. At the moment, the situation has changed radically: about 96% of the territory is under government control, 3.5% belongs to the de-escalation zone in Idlib. During the execution of combat missions, more than 1,400 settlements were freed.
Successes
About 63,000 troops of the Russian Federation participated in the fighting in Syria. Every fourth was awarded various state awards. More than 30 of the latest military developments have been tested. About 70 Russian unmanned vehicles performed daily operations related to the monitoring of the territory. Also during the operation, more than 80 ships and 14 submarines participated, performing 189 combat missions. We were able to eliminate more than 120,000 objects belonging to terrorist organizations.
Losses
The operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria began on August 30, 2015 as a support to the country on the appeal of Bashar al-Assad. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, since the start of the operation, 97 Russian military have died, 18 pieces of equipment have been destroyed. The biggest loss for the Russian side was the crash of the AN-26 aircraft, which caused the death of 39 people.
Aviation Hmeimim
Of great importance for the Russian military in Syria is the Hmeimim airbase, on which the aviation group of the Russian Air Force resides indefinitely. It was formed by the decision of Vladimir Putin from 08/30/15. Full-fledged provision of material and technical property from the Russian Federation is being carried out. On the territory of the airbase on combat duty is a mixed composition of aircraft.
Any actions of the aviation group are freely available on the official resource of the Ministry of Defense. The base was repeatedly visited by foreign journalists, and press tours were organized. 10,000 sorties were flown and more than 30,000 objects destroyed.
