Project development, creation and serial production of ZRK 2K11 "Krug"

The idea of developing and creating an effective means of military air defense appeared in the early 50s. The Soviet military-political leadership decided to create in the shortest possible time a powerful military air defense system capable of covering military units from the air in the format of a regiment, division and army. The creation went in two parallel ways. Two research and design teams: the TsNII-58 and OKB-8 under the direction of V.G. Grabina and L.V. Lyuleva.

In 1961, the first prototypes were handed over to the military for test launches. From 1963 to 1964, a new anti-aircraft missile system successfully passed state tests.

In the winter of 1965, a new 2K11 Krug missile-anti-aircraft complex based on a KS-41 self-propelled launcher (2H24) was put into service. Serial production was carried out for 18 years, from 1964 to 1982. Total air defense troops received from the Soviet industry more than 10 thousand. Combat anti-aircraft missile systems.
