The Swedish army will arm itself with the Hammer of Thor

The Swedish ground forces received the first four pre-production 120-mm self-propelled mortars with the complex name Granatkastarpansarbandvagn 90 (in abbreviation Grkpbv90). Mortars are placed on the chassis of an infantry fighting vehicle CV90. Previously this project was known as Mjölner.

In total, 40 self-propelled mortar systems Grkpbv90 must be supplied to the Swedish army. Order value - 68 million dollars.

The first prototype of the Grkpbv90 (Mjölner) was completed at an assembly plant and passed to tests in October 2017. Now the first four pre-production systems out of 40 contracted are delivered. Of the 36 serial systems proper, the first four should be delivered in August 2019, and then four units should be transferred every two months, with deliveries completed by the end of 2020.

Despite the fact that Grkpbv90 is a relatively simple and cheap version of a self-propelled mortar, this system will make significant progress for the Swedish army compared to the 120-mm towed GRK m / 41 mortars of the Finnish model of 1941 currently used.

By the way, the word Mjölner translates as "Hammer of Thor".
