New "Buyan" shook the calm of the Black Sea

The Navy of the Russian Federation and the specialists of the Zelenodolsk design and engineering bureau named after Gorky began to intensively test the newest Orekhovo-Zuyevo small missile ship (MRK) of the project 21631 (the code Buyan-M).

The main focus at this stage of the ship’s stay in the marine area is to check the air defense systems. To fly around the ship’s radar and test the algorithms of specialized on-board air defense systems for detecting and tracking air targets, Su-30SM fighters were involved.

Aircraft crews imitated the approach to the ship with a conventional missile and bomb strike. The flights were carried out at various altitudes with the execution of maneuvers that impede the detection of the aircraft by the aircraft’s anti-aircraft means. The crew of the "Orekhovo-Zuyevo" successfully coped with the tasks, in time discovered and classified aerial targets.

As a result of the tests conducted, the ship’s air defense system confirmed the tactical and technical characteristics of the ship.

The combined crew of the Orekhovo-Zuyevo, made up of servicemen of the Russian Navy and representatives of the Zelenodolsk plant, also evaluates the reliability of power plants, navigation equipment and other shipboard systems and mechanisms in real conditions of the sea crossing.

Among other things, the seaworthy qualities of the ship, its controllability, stability, propulsion and inertia in various driving modes are subject to verification.

The Orekhovo-Zuyevo small rocket ship is the seventh MRK in the 21631 project series, laid down at the Zelenodolsk shipyard in May 2014. Launched in June 2018, and in August the ship came to the Novorossiysk base to complete construction and conduct sea trials.

Multi-purpose ships of the project 21631 belong to the river-sea type. Airborne weapons include modern artillery, rocket, anti-sabotage, anti-aircraft, and radio-technical weapons, including eight high-precision Caliber cruise missiles.

The displacement of the ship - 949 tons. Length - 75 meters, width - 11 meters. Maximum speed up to 25 knots. Sailing range - 2500 miles, autonomy - 10 days. Crew up to 52 people.
