"Varshavyanka" will plow the Mediterranean Sea near Algeria

Two diesel-electric submarines of Project 636.1 "Varshavyanka" solemnly set off from St. Petersburg's "Admiralty Shipyards" to Algeria. The contract for their supply was concluded in 2014.

The submarines received tail numbers 031 and 032, they were called Ouarsenis and Hoggar.

The first boat (order 01346) left the Admiralty Shipyards area on October 2 of last year. To the shores of Algeria, she was accompanied by a 3200-tonne sea tug of the Algerian Navy “Al-Mussif”. The second diesel-electric submarine (order 01347) left St. Petersburg on November 26, accompanied by the Al Mundid Navy tugboat.

According to experts, the need of the Algerian naval forces in submarines of this kind is completely closed today. All the submarines of this country were made in Russia, and two more in the Soviet Union.
