The United Shipbuilding Corporation is working on the creation of a new aircraft carrier, the overall dimensions and displacement of which will surpass the similar characteristics of the only Russian Navy heavy aircraft carrying cruiser (TAKR) "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov".
After completing the development of project documentation, ship production is possible at the shipyards of the Northern Machine-Building Enterprise (Sevmash).
The appearance of a new aircraft carrier is kept secret. It is assumed that, in contrast to the Admiral Kuznetsov TAKR, there will be a nuclear power plant at the new floating airfield. The composition of the airborne weapons will include promising means of air and missile defense, electronic warfare systems. The aviation wing will consist of modern and still developed aircraft, including unmanned aerial vehicles.
The only Admiral Kuznetsov TAKR in service with the Russian Navy became part of the fleet in 1991. Currently undergoing a profound modernization, upon completion of which the service life will be extended by 20 years.
According to the President of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexey Rakhmanov, the country has the ability to create a vessel with characteristics better than those of the Admiral Kuznetsov.
The intentions of the leadership of the Russian Federation to build another aircraft carrier confirms the policy adopted by the state to occupy a dominant position in the world ocean, anywhere in the world. And to achieve this goal, the new ship will be an important tool.
