Almost half of the citizens of Germany want the US military to leave the territory of their country. This is evidenced by data from a survey commissioned by the information agency DPA.
Why do Germans want to send Americans home?
American troops appeared in Germany after the end of the Second World War. For decades, they were the main defense of the country against the possible invasion of the Soviet troops. After the end of the Cold War and the unification of the German states, their number was reduced. Despite this, the largest contingent of American troops, with the exception of Japan, is still in Germany.
A recent survey showed that 42% of Germans will be happy if US soldiers leave Germany, 37% of respondents want Americans to stay, and 21% of respondents are undecided.
It is curious that the voters of the left and right parties stand for the withdrawal of the US troops the most: 67 and 55% respectively. Supporters of the current government headed by Angela Merkel are much calmer in this regard.
