Bulgaria chooses American fighters

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov appealed to the state parliament with the request that he be given the go-ahead for the purchase of American F-16V "Viper" fighter jets for the needs of the country's air force.

It is noteworthy that the American fighters gained the upper hand in the tough and competitive struggle of the Swedish Gripenes and the Italian Typhoons. American aircraft won, as the Bulgarian media have noted, because the US offered the full package of delivery: fighters with installed weapons and equipment, unlike European competitors.

In total, according to preliminary agreements, Bulgaria will receive eight American fighters. The contract price hovers around 1.8 billion leva (about $ 1 billion). However, there are persistent rumors in the government that the amount will be changed - naturally, in a big way.
